Winery Veteran to Oversee Award-Winning Craft Spirits Collection
GEYSERVILLE, Calif. (February 14, 2018) – The Family Coppola announced today the appointment of Wendy Putman as CEO of Great Women Spirits, whose Lovelace Gin was recently named “Best of Show Clear Spirit” in the Craft Distillers Spirits Competition.
“Our family is no stranger to accomplished, empowered women,” says Francis Ford Coppola. “Sofia [Coppola] was one of the first women to emerge as a film director and Ellie [Eleanor Coppola] became a movie director at age 81. Many of the most senior positions at The Family Coppola are held by women, including Wendy. This promotion is a natural fit given Wendy’s accomplishments through the years.”READ MORE...

GEYSERVILLE, Calif. (September 27, 2017) – Having successfully secured a craft spirits license, The Family Coppola is proud to announce the launch of Great Women Spirits, which will be available this October in select restaurants and retailers. Great Women Spirits -- small-batch, house-crafted, classically styled spirits -- will begin production with its brand of vodka, gin, and brandy, and has plans to expand the collection in the near future.
Being in a family comprised of three accomplished female filmmakers -- Eleanor, Sofia, and Gia -- Francis Ford Coppola is surrounded by powerful women. “My mother, sister, wife, daughter, and granddaughters have all inspired me, as have all of the incredible women we celebrate with Great Women Spirits. We all know well the great men of history, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Napoleon and so on. I can think of as many women who distinguished themselves at that level in the fields of politics, science, mathematics and philosophy, so my choices and reasons for this collection are very personal."
His wife Eleanor agrees, and brings up a compelling perspective. “You know why we don’t hear about famous women in history? Because the history books were written by men.”READ MORE...

The Next Generation
Agnesi 1799 ($59, 40%; Great Women Spirits, Sonoma): This brandy from the Great Women Spirits portfolio of the Family Coppola is named after Maria Gaetana Agnesi, an 18th century mathematician. While the brandy will eventually feature estate fruit, it is currently sourced and blended with some stocks of Germain-Robin distillery's brandy, combining both column- and pot-still brandies from Russian River Valley Dolcetto and Central Valley Colombard. At five years old, it blends richness of age — savory mushroom, dark fruit and vanilla — accented with light floral notes.READ MORE...
