Around the country, we’re traversing the blue, tranquil waters of hidden swimming holes where plunging in invigorating waters are a great way to escape the summer heat. Adventure awaits: grab your bathing suit, a pair of water shoes, and some suntan lotion. Below, five locations paired with our favorite, easy-to-tote canned wines.

Aztec Falls, San Bernardino National Forest, California
Beloved for its deep waters and soaring cliffs, this popular spot is a great way to escape California summers. Deep within the San Bernardino Mountains and accessed by a six-mile loop that hovers around the Pacific Coast Trail, you can wade in the pools or sunbathe on the sloping rocks.  And if you’re feeing adventurous, there’s a range of exhilarating cliff dives from twenty to sixty feet.

Hali’i Falls, Kauai, Hawaii
On the majestic island of Kauai and only reached by hiking though off-the-beaten jungle, bamboo forests and old sugarcane pastures, you’ll find a spectacular blue-green waterfall opening to the pool called Hali’i (which means to “spread out”). Known for its tranquil beauty and a place to carve out a swim session under the falling water, it’s also a perfect place to sip something effervescent.

Situated off Route 66, this beloved Southwestern bell-shaped pool hosts clear, spring-fed blue water with cooling temperatures hovering around a chilly 61 degrees (a perfect match for the warm New Mexican desert heat).  It’s also a popular dive destination for scuba diving and training or simply wading in its refreshing waters.

Near Asheville, escape the southern heat and head to this crowd-pleasing waterfall and swimming hole.
