Vineyard Assistant

Location: Geyserville, California

Job Summary: 

The Vineyard Assistant under the direction of the Estate Vineyard Manager will perform vineyard cultural practices on the Francis Ford Coppola Winery vineyard acres.  This position will also assist with irrigation, trellis maintenance, fertilization, frost protection, minor equipment repairs, spraying and general maintenance of Estate Vineyards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Help to ensure all irrigation systems are functioning properly and perform minor repairs as needed
  • Assist Estate Vineyard Manager with property repairs including tree trimming, fence repair, plumbing, chipping brush, spreading compost, and general landscaping
  • Maintain vineyard appearances with routine weed control and mowing
  • Assist with all aspects of trellis repair and maintenance
  • Perform grape quality improvement tasks including bunch thinning, leaf pulling, cluster counts, and shoot placement
  • Assist Grower Relations team with harvest tasks such as sugar sampling
  • Replant missing vines and help train young vines
  • Help to repair and hook up implements including, but not limited to, choppers, mowers, sprayers, discs, weed sprayers
  • Assist with the collection and organization of yield estimation and monitoring vine phenological stages.

Job Requirements:  

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Vineyard experience is a plus

Skills:

  • Good work ethic
  • Self-Motivated
  • Able to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Basic carpentry and mechanical skills a plus

Knowledge:  

  • Basic understanding of viticulture processes

Physical:

  • Able to repetitively lift or carry 40 to 50 pounds for short periods of time.
  • Able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.

Other: 

  • Must have a valid California Drivers’ License and a clean driving record.
