When the Coppola family opened the doors to its wine and food destination in Sonoma County, California, the winemaking team was asked to create a series of wines that would reflect its own artistic interpretation of Sonoma County. Our Director’s family of wines harness this vision with two distinct tiers: Director’s and Director’s Cut. Director’s is comprised of four classic varietals, which are grown in diverse vineyards across the entire expanse of Sonoma County. By blending the fruit from a variety of geographic climates, we’re able to create wines that offer lush, ripe fruit flavors, a light silky texture, and soft, supple tannins—elegant wines designed for immediate enjoyment, which demonstrate Sonoma County’s unique character and style.

Our fruit was sourced this vintage from some of our favorite Dry Creek and Alexander Valley vineyards. Both regions experience cool evenings in contrast to warm daytime temperatures, which not only keeps the fruit from developing overly ripe fruit flavors but also lets the varietal’s spice and pepper notes shine through.

For the second year in a row we experienced very little rain and mild summer temperatures. In fact, having ideal weather for two consecutive years optimizes the vines. This resulted in lower yields and small berries that were incredibly concentrated and aromatic. Our Zinfandel ripened steadily throughout the season, hung on the vines a week or so later than normal, and developed a lush, velvety texture infused with dark, spicy flavors.

Aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels to heighten the varietal’s spice qualities, our Director’s Zinfandel delivers a beautiful fragrance, luscious flavors, and great balance by way of natural acidity. Beginning with scents of black raspberries, cloves, and toasted wood, dark juicy flavors of cherries and plum emerge, layered between notes of vanilla and spice. Juicy and textured on the palate, this wine has a long elegant finish and pairs beautifully with barbecued salmon, pork tenderloin with cherries, or pesto linguine.
