Wine Notes
The striking bouquet of this wine jumps out at you immediately with aromas of raspberry jam, baked blueberries, violets, and smoky spice notes of clove, tobacco, and forest floor. The opulent full-bodied palate presents juicy flavors of crushed cherries, berries, and cocoa. With the long, decadent finish you’ll find touches of caramel and toasted wood. This vintage has excellent structure with tannins capable of aging for several more years.
Marine influences shape the climate of Alexander Valley, resulting in warm days and cool nights. Soil diversity creates unique growing conditions in Alexander Valley with red volcanic soils on the eastern hillsides, alluvial gravel fans on the valley floor, and steep slopes of rocky clay loam on the west part of the valley.
The 2017 growing season began with a good deal of precipitation, but after a mild spring temperatures increased and remained quite warm throughout summer and fall. The vintage delivered smaller than average clusters, leading to excellent concentration and fruit quality. This season’s grapes offer firm tannins with power and density in the glass.
