2016 Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon displays tremendous dimension and intensity. It is dark, deep, and powerful, with a fragrant nose of wild berry, violet flower, clove, and mocha. There is purity on the palate and a framework of supple tannins. Flavors are focused and long lasting, highlighting nuances of cherry, cassis, and anise that are crowned with a wooded scent on the finish.

Located at the northern end of Alexander Valley, the Furlong Vineyard is a small, steep sloping vineyard featuring rocky soils. The difficult terrain limits the amount of fruit on the vines, which leads to more concentrated flavors and intense aromatics. Though temperatures here are warm during the day, the vineyards cool down significantly in the evening. This leads to extended hang time and more complex flavor development.

2016 experienced a traditional season where a cold, wet winter was followed by a prolonged summer heat that let the fruit develop excellent flavor concentration and ripe tannins. Harvest was spread out over many weeks, creating a slow pace that allowed the winemaking team to devote more attention to each batch of fruit. This extra care is reflected in the exceptional quality of the wine. Aged nearly 20 months in French oak barrels, wine and wood profiles are well integrated.
