Wine Notes
The 2017 growing season began with a good deal of precipitation, but after a mild spring, temperatures heated up and remained quite warm throughout summer and fall. The vintage delivered smaller than average clusters, which led to intense concentration and excellent fruit quality matched with firm tannins and powerful wines.
Located in the heart of central Alexander Valley, the Stuhlmuller Vineyard is home to several clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. The rolling hills and varied topography of this vineyard contribute a wide array of unique characteristics to the varietal. Rocky clay loam soil creates a limiting environment for the vines, leading to less fruit but more concentrated flavors. Afternoon fog brings cooler temperatures, making Stuhlmuller one of the later ripening vineyards in the valley. The extended seasonal hang time contributes additional flavor complexity to the fruit and wine.
