Francis Coppola Reserve wines are vineyard-specific creations produced in limited quantities from distinctive sites in Sonoma County.

The connection between a vine and the soil it’s planted in creates the essence of a wine. Each vintage, our winemaking team seeks out the most expressive lots of fruit, those that best capture the unique qualities of these prestigious vineyards. From these selections we craft small-batch wines, which are reserved exclusively for winery guests, Wine Family members, and those who shop with us online.

Wine Notes

Decadent is the best word to describe our 2015 Petite Sirah. This vintage overflows with lush fruit flavors and dramatic spice character. Full-bodied and flamboyant, the palate is framed by ample tannins that will allow this wine to age well. Where last year’s rendition had more baking spice aromas, 2015 delivers an earthier persona with tobacco, pepper, and espresso layered between dark juicy flavors of berry compote, pomegranate syrup, and lavender. This beautiful tapestry of flavors creates a long, exciting finish.

We had an opportunity this year to make Petite Sirah from the Barbara Long Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. This vineyard is meticulously managed in order to derive the highest level of expression from the fruit and its well-drained soils help stress the vines to create more concentrated flavors.

2015 was the fourth consecutive season of exceptional fruit quality in California and one in which there was another early harvest. Warm spring conditions prompted early bud break and dry conditions coupled with steady summer temperatures contributed to lower yields and concentrated fruit. These conditions also created greater tannin development which makes for a more supple wine.
