Decadent is the best word to describe our 2016 Petite Sirah. This vintage overflows with lush fruit flavors and dramatic spice character. Full-bodied and flamboyant, the palate is framed by ample tannins that will allow this wine to age well.
Dense and powerful, our 2016 Francis Coppola Reserve Petite Sirah is intensely
perfumed with fragrant aromas of cassis, sandalwood, white pepper, and Herbs de
Provence, followed by rich flavors of cherry pie, blueberries, and earthy minerals.
This is an extremely complex wine with sturdy tannins and a significant show of oak
to match the lush core of fruit. It finishes long and alluring and will age well for
years to come.
2016 experienced a traditional season where a cold, wet winter was followed by
prolonged summer heat that let the fruit develop excellent flavor concentration and ripe
tannins. Harvest was spread out over many weeks, creating a slow pace that allowed
the winemaking team to devote more attention to each batch of fruit. This extra care
is reflected in the exceptional quality of the wine.
Located in Dry Creek Valley, Abbe Vineyard is in the southern part of the appellation,
right on the edge of the cool Russian River Valley. The vineyard sits on a bench,
just off the river, where rocky loam soils contribute to the fruit’s immense concentration.
For years, we blended small amounts of Abbe Vineyard Petite Sirah into our Director’s
Cut Zinfandel to add weight and depth, and wanted to highlight the exceptional fruit
from this vineyard with a 100% Petite Sirah wine.
