Francis Coppola Reserve wines are vineyard-specific creations produced in limited quantities from distinctive sites in Sonoma County.

The connection between a vine and the soil it’s planted in creates the essence of a wine. Each vintage, our winemaking team seeks out the most expressive lots of fruit, those that best capture the unique qualities of these prestigious vineyards. From these selections we craft small-batch wines, which are reserved exclusively for winery guests, Wine Family members, and those who shop with us online.

Wine Notes

This year’s Francis Coppola Reserve Pinot Noir offers a vibrant, alluring fragrance right out of the glass. Its bouquet of raspberries, anise, and chai tea give way to gorgeous layers of sweet, rich fruit. The palate is dense and lush, framed by supple tannins and smoky oak, which elevate the flavors of blackberries, wild strawberries, cloves, and vanilla. There’s a distinct opulence to this wine but also a great deal of precision that reflects the quality of this vintage.

Located in the Russian River Valley less than ten miles from the Pacific Ocean, Dutton Ranch is comprised of more than 75 separate vineyards planted in the coolest areas of the appellation. Every afternoon, fog rolls in from the coast and lowers the temperature by 30-40 degrees each evening. This climate pattern not only allows Dutton Ranch fruit to ripen more slowly and accumulate more flavor concentration, it also helps the grapes retain an ideal amount of natural acidity.

The 2017 growing season went from a rainy winter, to a warm spring, to a hot summer. Even in the cool climate of the Russian River Valley, the fruit reached maturity several weeks earlier than normal, but blessed us with highly expressive and well-balanced grapes. 2017 was an excellent vintage and it shows through in the clarity and complexity of this wine.
