Winemaking has been a Coppola family tradition for several generations
Winemaking has been a Coppola family tradition for several generations. So has making art and providing entertainment, from music and cinema, to dining experiences, and international hideaway adventures. For Francis Ford Coppola, all of these endeavors embody a celebration of life, merely designed with different tools. This wine’s label, featuring Eleanor Coppola’s handwriting, is the original label design from the first Family Coppola wines bottled in the early 1980’s. Three decades later, the family’s small wine endeavor is now an established wine legacy.
The fruit for this blend was on the brink of being picked when the 2017 fires hit. Ryan Stapleton, our Director of Grower Relations, worked tirelessly with a lot of people including county officials so that we could gain access into the vineyard and get the picking done while fires raged nearby. To accomplish this, tractors had to be escorted from the ranch to a loading area, because Highway 128 was closed. In recognition of the great lengths that were taken to bring you this wine, we donned this wine with the name, “Tractor Escort”. Despite the devastating conditions, the vintage delivered high quality fruit with excellent concentration.
Knights Valley is one of the warmest sub-appellations of Sonoma County, making it an ideal location for Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Franc. Located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the range that separates Napa Valley from Sonoma, Knights Valley features warm, fertile volcanic soils that reside at higher elevations, which escape the fog layer. Since the weather is consistently warm, Cabernet Franc from this region becomes intensely ripe and fragrant.
Enjoy the Scents and Flavors
Layered, vivacious, and beautifully textured, The Family Coppola Cabernet Franc offers a perfect balance of lush fruit, fine tannin structure, and lively acidity. Nuances of raspberry, blueberry, cocoa, rose petal, and graphite create a dazzling fragrance that flows into darker, dramatic notes of black fruit on the smooth supple palate. As the flavors evolve, a peppery gingerbread note crowns the finish.
